Showing The Link Between Workshop and On Stage Playing – Scott’s Guitar Journey

Posted by The MindMusicMentor on September 22, 2012

Hi There,

If You have ever wondered what the link is between the Guitar Workshops and Playing On Stage – and infact if there is a link – then the answer is yes there can be – for some students the Workshop becomes the key ideal stepping stone for trying out, refining and experiencing different Guitar ideas before applying those same ideas on stage  in front of family and friends – for those that choose to do so – and infact next weekend sunday is a special workshop geared specifically as a Practice run through, rehearsal for the October Student Show.

There really is no better way to understand this link between workshop and on stage playing than to see someone Like Student Scott demonstrate – Scott was a beginner nearly three years ago and is getting ready for the October show – here’s Scott demonstrating Playing ideas at workshops and also live on stage so You can hear/see the similarlities and differences :-

Spotlight Classic Rock Keyboards Player helping Out at Student Show

Posted by The MindMusicMentor on September 17, 2012

Hi There,

Continuing the countdown to the October student show – the special guest musicians, together with the hard work of the students help to make the shows even more magical and memorable – doing a very powerfull and convincing sound on the keyboards – very much like the late Jon Lord of Deep Purple – here’s Lee Thompson – who will again this year be playing at the student show on even more student performances than last year.

Here, together with last years Guest London Guitarist GregX,  Lee helped make Jamie’s first time ever on stage – a very magical and memorable event – something that sadly too few guitarists ever get to experience, even those that have played for some time.

Here’s Lee together with Greg X and Young  Jamie on Deep Purple Classic Smoke On The Water :-

And together with Greg X in the interval – here they are on Deep Purple’s Black Night :- and also….

WhiteSnake’s Here I Go Again :-

Lee will once again be playing KeyBoards – and the Special Guest Guitarist this time round… a very talented Young Player who “can” bear an uncanny resemblance to Michael Monroe from Rock Band Hanoi Rocks!

Rockabilly blasts from Student Shows, Workshops and Weddings Past

Posted by The MindMusicMentor on September 14, 2012

Hi There,

Continuing the countdown to the October Student Show :-

Last time there was Rockabilly at the students show – Our Guest Guitarist was Dave James who has shared the stage with Buddy Holly’s  Crickets, Bill Haileys Comets and also DJ Fontana Elvis’ drummer who recorded HeartBreak Hotel at Sun studios in 1956.

Here is Dave playing a couple of classics as well as helping out student Lewis’ on HeartBreak Hotel – though Lewis did handle the solo and all the vocals himself – aged 11!

And from the recent workshop – a little Carl Perkins Rockabilly in the form of Matchbox :-

And… from Josh and Flatbadger who regularly gig in and around Coventry, here’s their Take on Misirilou, the theme from Pulp Fiction – also from a student show :-

And… last but by no means least… at the height of the 2012 London Olympics, Chris Playing Misirilou and Tequila at his very own wedding reception, as You will see now :-

Beginner & Intermediate Lessons Indie Guitar Coventry Warwickshire

Posted by The MindMusicMentor on September 13, 2012

Hi There,

Just to quickly let You know about New Guitar programs coming up in the next few weeks, including Rock, Blues and Hybrid programs.

But announcing here Indie Guitar – with the emphasis on making music straight away, and applying appropriate elements of other musical aspects such as theory and ear training to Indie styles – including modern indie as well as old school new wave/ Punk Rock styles of music.

Here are some examples of  students playing Indie/Punk styles at various workshop and student show events to give You an idea of what is possible :-

Playing Teenage Kicks at a WorkShop

Punk Classic Anarchy In the UK at a workshop

This is for Acoustic and Electric Guitar Players – and very different to general Guitar Lessons, as the emphasis is on You making Music from the get go.

An optional part is the opportunity to play on stage at a student show, or at a workshop or similar event – although many students do choose to keep their playing just for their own pleasure – here is an example from a student show of Punk/Indie Guitar :-

Niamh First Time Ever On Stage Playing Teenage Kicks

And here’s Ben and David Playing Indie band Muse Knights of Cydonia at a student show :-

Ben and David sharing Guitar duties on Indie Classic Knights Of Cydonia

Although Ben’s Guitar Journey took more of a hybrid approach – including elements of Indie as well as Rock and Blues to provide a full deep foundation to his playing :-

2 Years of Ben at Our Student Shows – showing His Progress on his Unique Guitar Journey!

And here’s Paul talking about his experiences of Indie/Punk Guitar :-

First Time RockaBilly at Our Workshop – Matchbox/ Carl Perkins

Posted by The MindMusicMentor on September 10, 2012

Hi There,

Something different from the last Workshop – as well as classic rock and blues – there was a little Rockabilly – where students had the chance to practice rockabilly rhythms as well as try out some 1950s type solo ideas along with live drums – often times music like Rockabilly can get neglected and yet for Guitarists that are looking to be versatile and aim to be proficient playing multiple styles – some understanding of  rockabilly/ early rock n roll from the 1950s – the decade that really defined ” The Teenager” – is really key – and what better way to explore this important foundation of  many later rock styles than being immersed in this Music at a Workshop… as You will see in the video below :-
